"Are essential oils dangerous for a tiny baby?" Danièle Festy, pharmacist specialized in aromatherapy, answers Floriane's question.

The answer of Danièle Festy, pharmacist specialized in aromatherapy *

  • Aromatherapy uses essential oils, very potent, multi-active concentrates that have incredible properties. They are a real therapeutic force that can act on many fronts: antiviral, antibacterial, painkiller, antifungal ... They limit the use of allopathic drug treatments.
  • All essential oils are not forbidden to the little baby! However, even though essential oils are not inherently dangerous, they can, as they are powerful, potentially become so when they are misused. Some are not allowed for children before the age of 3 and sometimes even 7 years because their components may involve allergic or neurotoxic risks, for the baby.
  • Some essential oils, on the other hand, offer excellent therapeutic solutions to relieve the young child. Depending on their properties, some may be used from the age of 3 months, others a little later. Here are some of them: Tea Tree to fight against rhino, tonsillitis, oral diseases and to stimulate the immunity of the child to fight against colds. Roman chamomile to calm nervous agitation and dental pain. Ho wood to soothe eczema, psoriasis, impetigo but also otitis and bronchitis or true lavender to promote a restful sleep.
  • Be careful though, not all authorized essential oils are suitable for all children. They should not be given to children with allergies or epileptics. Their mode of administration: massage, diffusion ... requires certain precautions. That is why, before any use, it is necessary to make sure that they are part of the essential oils authorized in the baby and to inquire precisely with a specialist in aromatherapy, pharmacist or doctor, on how to use them.
