Diminutive of Jimmy, himself from James, one of the Anglo-Saxon forms of Jacques.
Still very little used this diminutive could grow by surfing on the wave of short names or seduce fans of the film of François Truffaut Jules and Jim. Saint James the Greater is the brother of Saint John the Evangelist. He became one of Jesus' apostles. Died in 44, he was buried in the village that today bears the name of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle.
